Theme

I think that the theme of the book A Child Called "It" is that children who are being abused should speak up, they shouldnt put up with all that suffering and torturing. They should live happy as there kids because were not kids the whole life and we have to live our childhoood. They should talk to an adult maybe at school so they can get some help. In the book, Dave was too afraid to speak up becuse he knew if his mom found out that he was trying to escape from her, he would get punished really badly with one of her games.

Connection

A Child Called "It"

When I was reading the book of A Chilled Called "It" , I remembered that I hear somewhere that Child Abuse is still going on around the world. And thy we can't hurt our future because they said that the kids are our future and the we need to treat them well. And adults need to take care of their kids not hit them or take advantage of them just because they think that they can't do nothing about it.

An "It"

A Child Called "It"
pg.140

" Get one thing straight, you little som of a *****! There is nothing you can do to impress me! Do you understand me? You are a nobody! An It! I hate you and I wish you were dead! Dead! Do you hear me? Dead. "

That day, the reason why Davids mother snapped like that was because Davids teacher told David that the title that David made up for the schools news paper won and he gave a letter for Davids mother to read. David thought that maybe his mother would reward him and giving him some food so afterschool, David ran as fast a s he could to get to him houseto show her the letter. When David got home, he showed it to her and that's when she ripped it into small pieces in front of his face and screammed all those bad things to him.

The Accident

A Child Called "It"
pg.85

" As I looked at her, Mother snached a carving knife from the counter top and screamed "If you dont finish on time, I'm going to kill you. "

The time game was another of his mothers game. She would put time limits on the chores that David had to do if he wouldnt finish in time he would grt punished for not finishinf on time. That time he had to wash the dishes after his fqmily ate without him like always, but this his mother was a little drunk so she got the knife and threaten David that if he didn't finish on time she was going to kill him. Because she was drunk she kinda fell throwing the knife straight at Davids chest, Which she called an accident. After that she cured him a little and told him that he can take his time with the dishes. She she left, David hurried his way to his father and told him that his mother stabbed him, he looked like he isn't even listen just still looking at his newspaper. Then e said just go back to the kitchen and I won't tell her you told me this it'll be our little secret. With tears David went back to his chores.

Gas Chamber

A Child Called "It"
pg.108

" Breathing through the cloth, I watched the mistinen its way closer and closer to the floor. I felt as if I were locked in a gas chamber. "

What David said that he felt as he were in a gas chamber, he meant because his mothe would come up with new "games" just so that she could watch David suffer and torture him. The gas chamber was one of the worst torchure for Dave as he said himself on the book. In the bathroom, his mother would mix some chemicals like, nemonia and clorox the smell of those chemicals were so powerfull that it can choke someone thats why before the game started David would use a piece of cloth so the smell wouldnt be thqt strong.

Starvation

A Child Called "It"
pg.47

"By then, Mother would "forget" to feed me any dinner. Breakfast wasn't much better. "

David would say that his mother would forget to feed him in quotations because supposly she would forget to feed him. It was just an excuse so David wouldnt get anything to eat. The poor kid wouldnt eat anything because he just wasnt allowed to, his mother would say hes a "bad boy" thats why he didnt diserve to eat anything or play with his brothers. And for breakfast, sometimes if he finished all his morning chores that his mom would tell him to do he could only eat the leftovers of his brothers plate of cereal. For his mother, Davids brothers were all she had. Her most precious things in the world. Meanwhile David was an "It" a nothing.

I'm Free?

  A Child Called "It"
pg.14 " I lean back against the seat. A reflection from the sun hits my eyes. I turn away from the rays as a single tear runs down my cheeck. " I'm free?" "

This quote represents that David was finally free from the beatings of his mother. He was surprised that one simple call was all it took just to get his mother away from him. As the school nurse was revising David as usual she noticed even more beatings and the most shocking was when she saw the scar of when his mother "accidently" stabbed him, she ran outside crying and she reported to the principle so they called the police because that was just too much for a kid. After that they were sitting at the officers office and he asked Dabid for his moms number, David didnt wanted to give it to him because he knew that he was going to get beaten again but the police officer already knew the number. He just simply called her and told her that they were in custody for child abuse. So thats when David wonders and says hes free.

Connection

A connection to the book Fever 1793 was that ive heard of epidemics that had happened but none of them sound as bad as yellow fever. I think that the Swine flu is close because lots of people also died fron the swine flu. People everywhere were wearing facemasks because anyone was at risk of getting it.

Matilda

This is an image of the book Fever 1793. You can see by Matildas picture of her face in the book cover that she has the yellow fever as you can see by her eyes. The yellow fever is one of the worst feelings you will ever get if you get it. Matilda is strugguling thru this epidemic with her family and her families coffeshop.

Friendly neighbors?Friendly neighbors?

"There is great distress in the city for want of cash. Friendship Is nearly entirely banished from our city"

In this quote that I got from the book Fever 1793 is trying to express that people were running out of money and couldn't find a way to get money because all the cities were at risk of getting the fever. Friendships were totally gone because no one really knew who had the fever and who didn't. So when they would see somebody they would getaway or be really rude. Fever 1793 is reflecting that in that time of the epidemic, there was no true friends.

Limit of Population

"The yellow fever will discourage the growth of great cities in out nation"

This quote from Fever 1793 interprets that day by day, hour per hour, minute by minute, and second per second the people of Philadelphia were dyeing. With that said, the population was going down and discouraging the cities from growth. There were only a few who had survived the fever, in the case of Matilda she and her mother survived. Whithin total of thousands of souls flied during the year 1793 in the cities of philadelphia.

Souls and Plagues in the Air

"Hot dry winds forever blowing, dead men to the grove-yards going, funeral verses Oh! What plagues there is no knowing!"

This other quote from the book Fever 1793 is representingthe weather and number if population in people dyeing . Since the moth in which fever happened was in September, which means it was still hot but getting cold, so the quote says "hot, dry winds forever blowing" which is reasonable for the month of September. The dead men were going to grove yards obviously, and lots of funerals. By the last part of the quote " what plagues there is no knowing! " , they really don't know what plagues rather was so they say no knowing. Fever 1793 makes us see and understand what the people of Philadelphia went thru in the year of 1793.

Death Flying

"Shafts of death fly closer and to us everyday"

This quote from the book Fever 1793, is explaining about the epidemic of fever. I'ts trying to say that hundredss of people died day by day during that time of the epidemic. And is getting closer and closer to the ones that are not sick yet. But if they don't protect themselves enough, they will get the fever because it's in the air and that's the worst part. During that time, all the people were acting very rude because they wanted to protect themselves and their family. Fever 1793 illustrates the understanding of people dyeing of sicknesses.

Epidemic

"The plot rages the epidemic itself"

By this quote that i took from the book Fever 1793, it explains how bad the epidemic of fever was. It was that bad that they called it an epidemic. And it wasn't just a regular fever, it was called "Yellow Fever". It was called yellow fever because it was wasn't than just a regular fever. Yellow fever made your eyes yellow, it will just simply make you feel like its the end of your life. Fever 1793 is a really interesting book, it not only tells the reader a story but teaches you a lot of lessons in life.
